Somewhere in August 2020, I leave politics-discussing messaging groups. I stopped reading news, asked my friends to not share any provocative content, stopped discussing anything about politics. I simply no longer allocate my energy to any of that stuffs.
When you are no longer distracted by news and politics, you have nowhere else to look but inside yourself. I experience more self awareness, I become more critical to my own flaws and bad habits. I’m not saying that I couldn’t have done that while still discussing a lot about politics in daily life, but looking inside is instant when you have nothing else occupied your mind.
“You do not want to win an argument, you want to win” - NN Taleb Above all, I also want to win friends so the importance of winning an argument is almost nonexistent if you think about long term. You want to play long term games with long term people (Naval Ravikant).
Update August 2023: Living my best life never watching or reading from the news, I don’t know anything about politics besides Anies and Ganjar are running for president (couldn’t avoid big banners on my way to work). Been focusing on growing my company, and I want everyone who works in my company prosper. Turns out when I don’t bother being right, I improve myself a lot. Proving that being right should never my main thing.
